The nominations have been released for the 2011 Villiers Stakes, which is due to run at Warwick Farm Racecourse this Saturday December 17, 2011.

20 horses have been nominated for a run in the Villiers Stakes 2011, including New Day Rising.

New Day Rising has won three of his 15 career starts and has earned close to $180,000 in prize money.

The five-year-old gelding won his last start in the De Bortoli Wines Welter at Rosehill last Saturday by a length.

New Day Rising was ridden to his last start win by apprentice jockey Chad Schofield, who will remain on board the horse for the 2011 Villiers Stakes.

“He has done everything right so far, so why shouldn’t I keep him on?” trainer Gary Portelli said.

“His ride on Saturday was perfect and he knows the horse.”

Portelli believes New Day Rising is capable of winning the 2011 Villiers Stakes.

“The Villiers will be a harder race again but he is in good form and I’d say that the mile won’t be a worry,” he said.

Also included in the 2011 Villiers Stakes is Monton, who won the Listed Festival Stakes at Rosehill on December 3.

The five-year-old also finished a handy third in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes first-up this preparation.

The Catbird gelding has won five of his 19 race starts and earned more than $320,000 in prize money.

Also included in the 2011 Villiers Stakes are Fibrillation, Miss Keepsake, Lightinthenite, Solid Billing, King Lionheart and Viva Las.
